Phyl’s Academy Reads for the Record!
Read for the Record Day is a national campaign that brings children and adults together to read a selected book. On this day, millions of young readers experience the joy of reading simultaneously. The campaign’s goal is to increase early childhood literacy. Read for the Record raises awareness about the importance of reading at a young age. It builds essential literacy skills in preschoolers. Phyls Academy is proud to participate in this inspiring initiative. It aligns with our mission to make learning engaging, meaningful, and fun for every child.
How Phyls Academy Celebrated the Day
At Phyls Academy, we planned a full day of activities for Read for the Record Day. Our teachers selected engaging activities to make reading memorable for students. The students read Piper Chen Sings, co-authored by “Hamilton” star Phillipa Soo, psychotherapist Maris Pasquale Doran, and illustrated by Qin Leng! It’s a moving story of a young girl gaining confidence and overcoming her nervousness with the help of her Nai Nai (grandmother). Teachers used expressive reading to help preschoolers connect with the story. Following the reading, students created crafts inspired by the book.
These activities reinforced essential literacy skills, including listening, comprehension, and vocabulary. Our eager students were fully engaged to participate in every activity. This event was a wonderful introduction to the joys of reading.
